Balance as Process: Sutnar Faculty Students Exhibit in Pilsen and at Prague's Art Safari

FDU Students Exhibition

How do we maintain balance in an era of climate change, social polarisation, and digital pressure? Sutnar Faculty students chose balance as their shared theme for the closing academic year and will present their results at several exhibitions.

From audiovisual and interactive installations to painting, sculpture, photography, and graphic design, students of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen will present a wide range of media at the Pilsen City Gallery from Wednesday, 20 May until 5 July. The opening of the first Pilsen exhibition within the Balance project will be complemented by the Fashion Design studio fashion show. Selected student works are also currently on view in Prague until Sunday, 24 May, as part of Art Safari at Studio Bubec.

"Many of the works deal with finding a balanced position in one's own life, whether in difficult situations related to illness, borderline mental states, or the complex search for gender identity, as well as in the context of everyday life," explained Daniela Kramerová, curator of the Balance exhibition project. According to her, part of the works address internal and intimate questions - the relationship to the body, psychological wellbeing, identity, and the daily search for balance between work and private life, between the screen and the physical world.

The curator admitted that the students' interest in the theme of balance pleasantly surprised her: "The vast majority of studios got involved in the project. Alongside the naturally large number of projects drawing on personal experience, I appreciate the effort at empathy and the interest in social and, above all, environmental topics. In terms of form, I am delighted by the great variety of approaches and techniques, and the generosity and inventiveness of the work."

The second part of the Balance exhibition project focuses primarily on design and is on view at the Ladislav Sutnar Gallery. The opening reception will be held on 3 June at 6 PM, and the exhibition will remain open until 4 July. The core of the show consists of works from the Metalworking and Jewelry studio, alongside pieces from the Fashion Design, Furniture and Interior Design, and graphic design and illustration studios, as well as posters created in the latter.

Both Pilsen exhibitions can also be explored with curator Daniela Kramerová on Wednesday, 10 June. The guided tour will begin at 4 PM at the Pilsen City Gallery and continue at the Ladislav Sutnar Gallery.
