Applicants interested in teacher training can now apply for the 2026/2027 academic year. They can choose from a wide range of teaching and non-teaching programmes, including dozens of combined subject options. The Faculty of Education is also increasing the admission capacity.

Last year, more than four thousand applications submitted their applications to the Faculty of Education (FPE), the highest number among the nine faculties of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. Applicants can regularly choose from dozens of bachelor’s, master’s and follow-up master’s programmes, as well as from a very broad range of combined subject options in the major/minor format.

The faculty is responding not only to strong applicant demand but also to schools’ demand for graduates. “Every year we see considerable interest in teacher training and other education-focused programmes. That is why we are increasing capacity in some programmes and continuing measures that make studying more accessible for applicants – for example, entrance exams have been abolished in selected study programmes,” said FPE Vice-Dean for Education Jan Krotký.

According to school principals, there are long-term difficulties in recruiting teachers in some shortage subjects. These include a lack of applicants particularly in science and technical fields, as well as in some language specialisations, such as German language. FPE therefore motivates applicants through direct admission in order to help strengthen staffing in regional schools. “Specifically, this applies to bachelor’s programmes in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, German Language, Russian Language, and Technical Education with a focus on education. Applicants interested in these programme combinations can therefore be sure that they will be admitted,” Krotký added.

The faculty offers a wide spectrum of pedagogical and arts disciplines, science specialisations, language combinations, and teacher training programmes for primary and secondary schools. Joint programmes with the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FAV) also continue, opening up opportunities to combine pedagogical education with exact sciences, such as mathematics or computer science for secondary schools.

“The development of study programmes focused on physical education and kinanthropology is also important for the faculty – especially in Karlovy Vary. Demand for our graduates remains consistently high, and we take our responsibility for preparing future teachers very seriously,” added Dean Pavel Mentlík. The faculty will introduce its first graduates of Kinanthropology in summer 2027.

Applicants can submit electronic applications until 30 April 2026, or until 29 May for programmes jointly taught by FPE and FAV. Most entrance examinations will take place during the main examination period from 19 to 25 June 2026.

All details regarding admission requirements, individual deadlines, exam formats, and applicant support are available at studujifpe.zcu.cz. The electronic application form with a list of programmes and their combinations can be found at eprihlaska.zcu.cz. And for any of this year’s secondary school graduates who are still undecided about their future education, Open Days will take place on 26 January in Cheb, 27 January in Pilsen, and 28 January in Karlovy Vary.
