Worry stones made their first appearance at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen last autumn. Back then, staff members from the Counseling Center (PoC) crafted them in the Ceramics studio at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art. As an ethically made symbol of support, the stones were a huge hit among both students and university staff. Therefore, the PoC is bringing this activity back this year. This time, however, anyone from any part of UWB can join in, craft their own stone, and unwind in the process.
The workshop is English-friendly and will take place on Tuesday, June 2, at Kulturka in the center of Pilsen. Participants can drop in anytime between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM. No artistic talent or previous experience is needed. Anna Šupolíková and Tomáš Černý from the Ceramics studio at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art will guide participants through the entire creative process.
A worry stone is a small object that fits right between two fingers. In moments of stress or tension, rubbing it can help reduce anxiety, ground you, and improve focus. Workshop participants can craft a stone for themselves or make one for incoming first-year students. A handmade gift is a gesture of solidarity and a message that the mental well-being of the entire university community truly matters to us.
