This year’s summer holidays at the Faculty of Education of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen once again promise adventure. Students of the faculty are organizing two themed summer day camps for children aged 6 to 12. The camps will offer a varied programme full of games, creative activities, and teamwork. “We wanted to offer children a meaningful way to spend their holidays that would be fun while also teaching them something new. At the same time, it is a great opportunity for us to gain hands-on experience working with children,” explained FPE student Michaela Humlová on behalf of the organizers.
The first session, titled Harry Potter with English, will take place from 13 to 17 July. Children will immerse themselves in the world of magic, join Hogwarts-style houses, play Quidditch, and try potion-making and herbology classes. English will naturally be incorporated into the games and activities throughout the week. The second session, Discovering the Mysterious Island, will run from 3 to 7 August and transform participants into castaways. Children can look forward to building shelters, learning navigation skills, solving ciphers, and going on a trip to the ruins of Radyně Castle. The week will conclude with a treasure hunt and celebrations.
“We designed the programme to encourage cooperation, creativity, and physical activity. Most importantly, we wanted children to leave with memorable experiences and joy,” said Humlová. The camps are organized with the support of the faculty leadership and build on the practical training of future teachers. Students will gain experience organizing leisure activities and working with groups of children in a real-world setting.
Both camps will take place at the Faculty of Education building on Veleslavínova Street in Pilsen. The programme runs daily from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Each session is limited to 15 participants. More information, including registration details, can be found on the summer camp website. An email contact is also available for enquiries.
