German Ambassador Peter Reuss met Tandem representatives at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. His regional program included meetings with city and regional officials, visits to key sites, and talks with partners in education to support Czech-German youth exchange.

To discuss the importance of teaching a second foreign language in schools, the necessity of stable funding for youth projects, and the university’s role in the region – those were some of the main reasons of German Ambassador Peter Reuss to met with Lucie Tarabová, Director of the Czech office of Tandem on Tuesday, March 17. Tandem is based in Pilsen since 1997, the organization focuses on fostering Czech-German partnerships as one of its top priorities.

According to Peter Reuss, the Pilsen Region is a natural hub for Czech-German encounters where German is an essential tool for deeper cooperation. He emphasized its importance across the entire education system: The Pilsen Region has the potential to support German language learning throughout the educational system, providing young people in this region with a competitive advantage, not only in the labor market but also in their personal development,” he stated during the meeting.

During the discussion with the Tandem team, the Ambassador took an interest in current youth exchange activities and future cooperation plans. One of the next joint steps for Tandem at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen and the German Embassy in Prague will be a large-scale Czech-German Youth Meeting for 60 young people from both countries, planned for this autumn in Prague,” concluded Lucie Tarabová.
