The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen invites you to a lecture dedicated to the issue of the manosphere on Monday, October 7, at 5:00 PM at the Družba University Café. The event is open to UWB students, staff, and the general public. A moderated Q&A session with the audience will follow the lecture.
The term manosphere refers to a diverse collection of websites, forums, and social media profiles united by the belief that men are oppressed in modern society. Algorithms frequently push these ideas toward younger audiences, turning what was once a marginal internet subculture into a broader societal topic. In their lecture, Linda Coufal will contextualize this trend historically and sociologically. They will show that misogyny within this environment is not merely a series of random, hateful outbursts but a structured ideology whose radicalization mechanisms share key characteristics with forms of extremism such as racism.
Mgr. Linda Coufal, Ph.D., are a sociologist based at the University of Vienna. They are part of the ERC project LONERS, where they research the impact of loneliness on political radicalization. Their research focuses primarily on misogynist extremism, online radicalization, the manosphere (including the incel movement), and the intersections of conservative social movements with gender and populism.
