The Academic Senate of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen has selected Associate Professor František Steiner as the candidate for the next dean of the faculty. He works at the Department of Materials and Technologies, where he is involved in teaching and research activities and cooperation with industrial partners. In his role as dean, he wants to emphasize the faculty's openness to the world, connecting the academic and applied spheres, and supporting young talent. His vision for 2026–2030 is based on the motto "A faculty of excellence, open and connected to the world" and focuses on modern and responsible education linked to secondary school subjects and the revision of study programs with an emphasis on sustainability in electrical engineering.
A key area of his program is also the popularization of science and cooperation with graduates and industry. "My goal is for the Faculty of Electrical Engineering to be open, collaborative, and responsible to society. I will strive to maintain its excellence while also being a natural partner for students, scientists, and industry," said František Steiner after his election.
The current dean of FEL UWB, Zdeněk Peroutka, who will continue to lead the faculty until the end of February, congratulated his successor. "Congratulations to the newly elected candidate for dean, Associate Professor František Steiner. Today, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering stands on solid foundations that we have built together over the past years. I am proud that FEL has become an excellent institution with an international reach, a strong research base, and an open academic community. The newly elected dean will take over a faculty with a clear direction, a high-quality team, and potential for further growth, which he can seamlessly build on with his program and vision," said the current dean of FEL, Zdeněk Peroutka, who led the faculty for the last two terms, commenting on the election results.
The candidate for dean still has to be appointed by the rector of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, if this happens, František Steiner should take up his four-year term on March 1, 2026. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering currently has approximately 900 students and has long been recognized as a leading center for research, education, and innovation, with international partners and close cooperation with industry.
