On Tuesday, September 29, at 5:00 PM, the Faculty of Arts of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen invites the public to the European House Gallery on Republic Square in Pilsen for a literary event dedicated to the writer Josef Holub. The author of children's and young adult books would have celebrated his 100th birthday this September.
The program will reflect on Holub’s life story and his most significant books, focusing mainly on the novel Červený Nepomuk, originally Der rote Nepomuk (The red Nepomuk), in which he captured the pre-war atmosphere of Nýrsko. Kateřina Kovačková, a Germanist from Pilsen, will speak about this book.
The event will also feature the presentation of a newly published Czech translation of Holub’s book Die Schmuggler von Rotzkalitz, released under the title Pašeráci ze Soplákova (The Smugglers of Rotzkalitz). The publication is accompanied by illustrations from Jiřina Švajková. Markéta Balcarová from the UWB Faculty of Arts, together with the author’s niece Jana Bečvářová, will present it to visitors at the European House.
The roughly two-hour literary event commemorating the 100th anniversary of Josef Holub’s birth is co-organized by the Education and Research Library of the Pilsen Region, the Pilsen Region, and the Faculty of Arts of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.
