Climate and water. That is the main topic of UWB's 253rd Interdisciplinary Seminar on Monday, October 12, starting at 4:30 PM at the West Bohemian Museum in Pilsen. Hydrobiologist Jindřich Duras will focus on the climate crisis. According to him, this crisis is subtly yet all the faster rewriting the rules of life on land and in the water. Furthermore, humanity has neglected many things by postponing essential measures and relying on cheap solutions. But what does all of this actually mean, and can aquatic ecosystems and drinking water sources endure under these changing conditions? How clean are surface waters today anyway? The interdisciplinary seminar is open to both students and the general public.
RNDr. Jindřich Duras, Ph.D., has dedicated his entire life to water. He focused on hydrobiological questions as early as his master's thesis at the Faculty of Science, Charles University in Prague. His professional career has been tied to the Vltava River Basin Management (Povodí Vltavy), where he has long been involved in monitoring and managing water quality in rivers, ponds, and reservoirs. He participates in projects aimed at improving water quality, for instance, in the Hracholusky and České Údolí reservoirs. He is also the author of a clean-water project for the Velký Bolevecký Pond. He addresses pollution in the Úhlava River, which serves as the water source for the entire Pilsen metropolitan area. In addition, Dr. Duras lectures at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.
