Nearly 80 pupils from secondary schools in the Karlovy Vary Region visited the Faculty of Education at the UWB in Pilsen. During the UniTEEN Lite project day, they chose their own program from a selection of more than thirty courses and experienced university teaching first-hand.

Choosing a course according to their own interests, taking a seat in a university classroom, and experiencing faculty teaching even before graduation. Students from four secondary schools in the Karlovy Vary Region came to the Faculty of Education of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (FPE) in June to take part in the UniTEEN Lite project day. “It was great that we could choose the courses ourselves and experience what university is really like,” said one of the participating students.

“UniTEEN Lite is a great opportunity to introduce our faculty to secondary school students and show them that the university environment can be open, friendly, and inspiring. At the same time, it allows us to expand our activities towards the Karlovy Vary Region and offer local pupils the chance to experience FPE UWB for themselves,” explained FPE Vice-Dean Lenka Benediktová.

Participants chose in advance from a selection of more than thirty courses prepared by individual departments. Each of them then attended three courses during the day according to their own preferences — one in the morning and two in the afternoon — and also learned about study opportunities at FPE. This allowed them to explore not only specific topics from various fields, but also the study paths that may open up to them after graduation.

Reaching secondary school students from the Karlovy Vary Region is essential for us. We want to show them that the teaching profession has great social significance, offers meaningful work with people, and can be a very diverse and inspiring life path,” said Faculty Dean Pavel Mentlík.

UniTEEN Lite is a lighter version of the UniTEEN program launched by the Faculty of Education at the University of West Bohemia this February. It offers secondary school students the opportunity to attend selected courses at the faculty free of charge every Thursday during the summer semester. If they complete at least six courses, they receive their first diploma from FPE UWB.
