Exercise, fun, and relaxation - all brought together by the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen in a single day. As a symbolic full stop to the summer semester and the entire academic year, the university, together with its Institute of Physical Education and Sport, is organizing the SemestrOFF event. On Wednesday, May 20, the university will symbolically switch off classes for one day. However, rather than sending students and staff away from the Bory campus, it does quite the opposite. Right at the heart of university life, it offers them a unique opportunity to try indoor and outdoor sports, games, and other activities that they often have no time for during the academic year.
And it’s not just about physical activity. Anyone who wants to enjoy time with friends, relax with meditation, or listen to DJs and live music is welcome. While in previous years the day was dedicated exclusively to sports, this year’s program also caters to those who are not particularly drawn to physical activity. SemestrOFF is thus replacing the former Sports Day on campus. Those who want to check their fitness can sign up for a body composition analysis using an InBody device. Anyone interested in a first aid course can rely on the experienced experts from the Faculty of Health Care Studies. And for those who would rather get a bit lost, there will be a university maze to explore. On the other hand, visitors can also “find themselves” in nature through a wellbeing workshop focused on managing stress in a natural setting. Curious minds will also have plenty to look forward to, with several talks on health and sport rounding out the program.
The program kicks off with volleyball at 9:00 a.m. and concludes at 8:00 p.m. with a concert by Simply Cover Band. Throughout the day, DJ Bowling and singer-songwriter Václav Krušina will also perform. Those bringing children can sign them up for an orienteering run around the campus, organized by students of the Faculty of Education. Visitors can also play pétanque or try their hand at darts. Anyone who completes activities at selected sports venues will have a chance to win prizes in a raffle. The day will also feature the ceremonial announcement of the April Monthly Endurance challenge winners, as well as the results of the year-long sports competition, Rector’s Cup. Certificates will be awarded to graduates of online courses at partner universities within EUPeace who have earned the required number of credits in the EUTrack program.
A detailed list of all available activities, along with their descriptions, can be found on the SemestrOFF website, where participants can also register. Want to try parkour or archery, or really push yourself with a circuit workout? There’s only one thing to do - reserve your spot in time and, most importantly, come and join in!
