The second annual doctoral conference of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen will feature two thematic tracks on Thursday, October 1. The first will focus on identity, representation, and critical discourses in contemporary art. The second will address sustainability, materiality, and the future of artistic and design practice. Contributions may, of course, span the fields of fine arts and design, which are not strictly separated.
The conference, titled "Between Theory and Practice," is aimed at doctoral students working in art, design, art theory, curatorial studies, cultural studies, and related humanities disciplines. It provides a space for sharing research projects emerging at the intersection of artistic practice and theoretical reflection, focusing on current forms of artistic research, its methodology, and opportunities for interdisciplinary dialogue. At the same time, it offers a platform for presentation and critical discussion.
Sutnar Faculty invites all interested participants to register now via the online form. The application includes an abstract of the paper (approx. 300–500 words) and a short biography (approx. 100 words). The abstract should clearly state the research question, methodology, and connection to the selected thematic area. The open call for this year’s Ladislav Sutnar Faculty doctoral conference closes on May 15. More information is available on the conference website.
