Sutnar Faculty will offer lifelong learning courses this spring

FDU Public Education

Want to learn directly from professional artists, designers and art historians? In Pilsen, that's no problem at all - anyone can give it a try. The Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art is opening new courses for the public. Applications are being accepted until the end of January 2026.

Painting, drawing, photography, or even jewelry making. The range of spring courses for the public at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen is once again varied. Art and design enthusiasts can apply until 31 January 2026 at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design at the UWB. The courses will once again be taught by professionals who, in addition to their own creative practice, also work as university lecturers. Spring 2026 will offer proven classics as well as some new additions.

"After two years, we are ropening the course Principles of Interior Design, this time with a new lecturer, Kristina Zejkanová, who plans to combine practical teaching with excursions to Loos's interiors in Pilsen," said Martina Jeriová from the study department. The lecture series on art history Czech Post-War Art II, prepared by art theorist Andrea Sloupová, will also continue, as will the course Material as Experiment II, focused on traditional sculptural techniques.

According to the organizers from the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty, the photography course has long been the most popular and it is already fully booked for the upcoming spring term. Courses in drawing, painting and jewellery-making techniques also tend to fill up quickly. Most participants sign up to further develop their leisure activities. However, the organisers note that courses led by professionals can also be beneficial for those considering applying to study at the faculty.

Spring art courses for the public at the UWB begin in the week of February 16 and last for a total of 13 weeks. The length of the courses corresponds to the summer semester of the academic year. For a course to open, at least three paying participants must register. The maximum capacity is ten people. Graduates will receive a certificate of completion signed by the rector of the UWB and the dean of the Faculty of Design and Art. If any of them later enroll in a bachelor's or master's program at the faculty, they can apply for recognition of the completed course as part of lifelong learning and obtain credits.

In the spring semester of 2026, the following courses are available:

Digital Photography in Practice (already full)

Czech Postwar Art II: From the Onset of Normalization to the Fall of the Regime

    Figurative Painting

Drawing and Painting – Paths to Abstraction
