Teendesign as a first step: Sutnarka helps future artists and designers

FDU High school students Education

How to prepare for studying at an art school? Sutnar Faculty offers its applicants expert feedback and a first point of contact through the Teendesign competition. Applications are open until the end of January. Winners will receive a free week-long ArtCamp of their choice.

The path to studying art and design requires talent, systematic preparation, quality guidance, and the courage to have your work professionally evaluated. This is precisely what the Teendesign art competition, organized by the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the UWB in Pilsen, aims to offer high school students. The competition is intended for students of all types of high schools that teach art, design, or related subjects and provides them with professional feedback and their first contact with the faculty.

Participants enter the Teendesign competition as a tandem of a student and a teacher. In this way, the Sutnar Faculty evaluates and rewards not only the work of secondary school students but also the efforts of their teachers, who play a key role in educating future university students. "The main benefit of the Teendesign competition for high school students who are just considering studying art or design at university is that it offers them a realistic and comprehensive experience of how the university art environment works while they are still in high school," said project administrator Denisa Šimurdová. According to her, Teendesign also serves as an important bridge between secondary education and university studies and helps young people make a well-informed decision about their future academic path.

The Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the UWB in Pilsen is organizes the competition as part of its Cesta na Sutnarku (Journey to Sutnar Faculty) concept. The aim is to help high school students better navigate the range of art and design programs, get to know the faculty environment, its teachers and future classmates, and gradually prepare for the regular admission process. The goal is not a one-time contact, but the opportunity to create an individual pathway tailored to one's own experience, pace and needs. The Journey to Sutnar Faculty can thus also lead, for example, through lifelong learning coursesthe ArtCamp international summer art schoolDEMO entrance exams, or Open Day.

One of the main pillars of the Journey to Sutnar Faculty is, of course, the Teendesign competition. The jury evaluates not only the well-thought-out creative process and courage to experiment, but also the craftsmanship and functionality of the work. "Equally important is a clear and professional digital presentation and strict adherence to all formal and technical requirements of the application. Successful projects usually combine an authentic idea, an honest process, high-quality execution, and clear cooperation between the student and his or her teacher," added Denisa Šimurdová.

Applicants can apply for the current edition of the Teendesign competition until January 30, 2026. The jury will evaluate works created in the 2025 calendar year. Winners will receive a voucher for a week-long course of their choice at the 20th anniversary edition of the ArtCamp summer art school, covering the full course fee. Details are available on the faculty website.
