The Teendesign competition announces its winners

FDU High school students Education

Record numbers of high school students joined the Sutnar Faculty for a competition for young talents in art and design. Teams from across Czechia and Slovakia presented their projects. Teendesign offers professional feedback and, for those considering FDU, a first point of contact with the faculty.

Design and Applied Arts, Graphic design and Illustration, Audiovisual Arts, and Fine Arts. These are the four genres covered by the Teendesign competition at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (FDU). A record 156 high school students from all over the Czech Republic and Slovakia registered for this year's competition. They presented their work created in 2025 to the jury in Pilsen. Once again, the competition was held in tandem between students and teachers.

According to the organizers, evaluating a record number of contestants was a challenge. " The level of the submitted works was really high, so the jury had a very difficult task in making their decision. Many talented and creative students from various fields gathered here, so choosing the best ones was not easy at all," explained Denisa Šimurdová, project administrator from FDU.

Due to the high and consistent quality of the competition entries, the jury awarded two first places in the Fine Arts category this year. In the Design and Applied Arts category, the judges also recognized the outstanding quality of entries across individual disciplines, awarding prizes to the Fashion Design, Product Design, and Industrial Design studios in addition to the main awards. A complete overview of the competition winners, evaluations, and a list of jury members can be found on the Teendesign website.

FDU systematically focuses on motivated high school students who plan to study design or art. As part of the Cesta na Sutnarku (Journey to the Sutnar Faculty) cycle, it has been offering them several programs every year since 2021 to help them prepare for the admission process. Teendesign is the first step. The competition itself has been running for about twenty years, offering participants professional feedback and their first contact with the faculty. Further steps include DEMO přijímačky (DEMO entrance exams), where interested students can try out the admission process, and the ArtCamp summer art school.

The Teendesign competition is intended for students in their first to third years of all types of secondary schools where art or design subjects are taught. "Teendesign allows us to compare the work of students from different secondary schools and fields of study, which provides an inspiring insight into the diverse approaches to creativity. The competition is also unique in that it evaluates the student-teacher tandem. The guidance and support of the teacher throughout the creative process plays a major role," emphasized Denisa Šimurdová.

The winners of the competition will receive a free week-long course at the ArtCamp summer art school of their choice. There, they can further develop their talent under the guidance of LSF teachers. However, those who did not win can still apply for courses at this year's 20th ArtCamp. The July international summer school at the Sutnar Faculty is open to anyone aged 15 and above. The course offerings, price list, and application forms are available here.
