The University of West Bohemia’s volleyball teams have advanced to the University Volleyball League finals. Both the men’s and women’s teams achieved this success. The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen is thus the only university to advance to the final tournament with both of its teams. A total of 38 teams from across the Czech Republic are participating in this year's competition. 

The women’s quarterfinals, played as a best-of-three series, began with an away match. They faced the women’s volleyball team from the University of Hradec Králové. The very first set showed that this was no easy opponent. Although the West Bohemian women led for most of the set, they faltered in the closing moments and lost the set. The situation then turned around in the second set. The Pilsen volleyball players found their groove, got into a rhythm, and ultimately secured a 3-1 victory. The rematch awaited them a week later at home in front of roughly two hundred spectators. They defeated the team from Hradec Králové decisively, 3-0.

The men’s team also aimed for the same success. Their opponent was also from eastern Bohemia, from the University of Pardubice. However, the ZČU men’s volleyball team also struggled in the first set. Like the women, though, they turned things around and won the away match 3-1. In the rematch at home, they didn’t let the opportunity slip away and won again 3-1. 

The University Volleyball League finals will be played by the selected teams on May 4 and 5 in Brno. The ZČU women’s team will first face VŠB Technical University of Ostrava, while the Pilsen men’s team will take on VUT Brno. The next potential opponent for the women’s team from West Bohemia will be the winner of the match between MUNI and Charles University. The men’s team from the University of West Bohemia could then face the winner of the match between UTB Zlín and CTU.
