Players from Pilsen are this year´s university volleyball league champions. In a dramatic final match, the men’s team defeated Tomáš Baťa University 3–2. The UWB women’s volleyball team also made it to the Final Four, but after a loss to MUNI Brno, they finished just shy of the podium.

The Pilsen volleyball team is the 2025–26 university league champions. In the Final Four tournament in Brno in early May, they confidently defeated both opponents, securing the championship title for the second time. The women’s volleyball team from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen also held its own against the best academic teams, finishing in fourth place in the Final Four. The top four teams from a total of twenty participating universities across the Czech Republic advanced to the Final Four in both categories. The University of West Bohemia was the only university to have teams in the Final Four in both the men’s and women’s categories.

The ZČU volleyball team faced VUT Brno in their first match and set the pace from the start. Although they briefly lost their focus in the second set, they defeated Brno 3–1 and advanced to the final against Tomáš Baťa University in Zlín. The men’s tournament final was a close match, and according to the UWB coaches, the players on both sides delivered an excellent team performance, at times reaching the level of the top league. The dramatic match, from the first to the last point, was also appreciated by the spectators in Brno. The UWB team ultimately won 3-2, 17-15 in the final tiebreaker. “Thank you to everyone who contributed to this success. The fact that we’ve won the university league for the second time is no coincidence, but the result of many years of work, determination, and above all, proof that if you have a great group of people and everyone puts a little of themselves into it, you can’t really lose,” said Antonín Kábrt, captain of the West Bohemian team from the Faculty of Health Studies, after the match.

The Plzeň women’s volleyball team faced a strong squad from VŠB TU Ostrava right in the semifinals. According to the coaches, their play showed signs of nervousness at first. Although the ZČU players’ performance gradually improved, it wasn’t enough to beat Ostrava. After losing 0-3 in sets, the West Bohemian team was left fighting only for third place. There, the Plzeň women faced the team from Masaryk University Brno. Except for the third set, the ZČU volleyball players played a very even match against the Brno players. But even this time, it wasn’t enough for a victory; the ZČU women’s team lost to Brno 1-3, ultimately finishing in fourth place among the season’s top teams.

Nevertheless, the Plzeň volleyball players don’t view the result as a loss. “I basically view the entire final in Brno positively. Even though we didn’t manage to win a medal, I’m proud of the volleyball we played there. I liked the overall atmosphere in the team and the emotions on the court,” summarized team captain Kateřina Beštová from the Faculty of Education. Players from Charles University won the women’s championship title.
