The journey to education can start on a tram. A UWB vehicle hits Pilsen streets

A colourful University of West Bohemia tram will travel Pilsen’s streets for a year, becoming part of everyday public transport. Wrapped in the colours of all nine faculties, it will rotate across all tram lines and invite prospective students of all ages to the university.

Throughout 2026, a tram operated by Pilsen City Transport Company will run through the city streets wrapped in the colours of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen. Dispatchers will deploy it as needed on all tram lines 1, 2 and 4.

The colourful wrap draws on the visual identity of all nine faculties and is meant to show that the university is a living part of the city. The design was created by Kristina Fišerová from Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at UWB, who complemented the colours with a simple arrow motif. “Its primary function is to indicate direction. The way to the University of West Bohemia, the way to education, forward movement, the right direction. Get on board. This tram goes much further than you can imagine,” she said.

According to the author, the striking blending of faculty colours is not just a visual effect but, above all, a message that UWB is built on cooperation across disciplines. “The mixing of colours symbolises interdisciplinary collaboration among individual departments, which is characteristic of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen,” she explained. In her view, sharing knowledge, seeking solutions and constant forward movement are what define the university.

The tram is open to students, staff and anyone else who travels around Pilsen by public transport on a daily basis. In January, for Open Day, it will also bring prospective students to the university. Each month, passengers will encounter a new theme in the interior – from the University of the Third Age and lifelong learning to scientific achievements and invitations to events such as the UWB Day of Science and Technology,” said UWB Vice-Rector for External Relations Jan Váně. According to him, the tram in UWB colours will serve throughout the year as a reminder that study, science and research are constantly on the move – just like the tram heading to UWB.
