The University of West Bohemia struck twice at the Indoor meeting in Prague's Stromovka Park. Pavel Froněk and Adam Fliegl won medals in the high jump and shot put.

The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen recorded two medal successes at this year’s Czech Academic Indoor Athletics Championships. Both medals were won by 21-year-old students of the Faculty of Economics. Pavel Froněk claimed silver in the high jump, clearing 1.95 metres at the Otakar Jandera Athletics Hall in Prague’s Stromovka Park. Adam Fliegl earned bronze there in the shot put, putting the shot weighing more than seven kilograms to a distance of 14.75 metres.

A total of seven students represented UWB at this year's championship held in the second week of January. From the Faculty of Economics, Martin Všetička also competed in Prague alongside medalists Adam Fliegl and Pavel Froněk. His best result came in one of the 60-metre heats, where he finished fifth. The Faculty of Education was represented by Anežka Králová, who placed fifth in the women’s 200 metres. Vojtěch Černý competed for the Faculty of Law and finished fifth in the men’s 800 metres. David Gric from the Faculty of Philosophy in Pilsen finished last on the same track. Denisa Hrušková from the Faculty of Health Care Studies of the UWB did not fare too well either, placing sixth in the women’s shot put.

The Czech Academic Championship in Indoor Athletics for individuals and teams is held annually by the Department of Athletics, Sports and Outdoor Activities of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport of Charles University under the auspices of the Czech University Sports Association. This year, over 250 athletes competed in Prague. Students of Czech accredited universities and higher vocational schools of all forms of study can participate without age restrictions, as long as they provide a valid proof of enrolment. Applications may also be submitted by graduates who completed their studies in the same calendar year in which the championship takes place. Foreign students are not excluded from the academic championship either, as long as they study at Czech higher education institutions or are enrolled, for example, within the Erasmus program.

Official results and further details are available on the Czech Athletics Association website.
