UWB offers the last available study places. Second-round admissions are now open

Five faculties at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen are offering the last available places in selected study programs this July and August. Second-round admissions cover humanities, engineering or economics. The university aims to increase student enrolment for the third consecutive year.

More than 17,000 applications were submitted to the University of West Bohemia (UWB) in the first round of admissions, the highest number in the past decade. Even so, several faculties are continuing recruitment and opening second-round admissions. “Our goal is for UWB to come close to 14,000 students next year, as we set out in 2023,” said UWB Rector Miroslav Lávička. The university had 13,000 students in the previous academic year.

All three technical faculties are opening second-round admissions. The Faculty of Applied Sciences offers programs focused on computer science, cybernetics, physics, mechanics, mathematics, geomatics, and teacher education. Civil engineering is also available. Applications can be submitted until 7 August. “There is strong demand among companies, not only in the Pilsen region, for graduates of our faculty. We have therefore decided to open a second round of admissions for all our bachelor’s degree programmes,” said the FAV Dean Miloš Železný.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is accepting applications until 3 August and has reopened all study programs. Applicants can still apply for the new program, Environmental Engineering and Technologies, which focuses on materials and the circular economy. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering has opened second-round admissions for its bachelor’s program Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, as well as for follow-up master’s specializations. These include power systems, applied electrical engineering, electromobility and intelligent transport systems. Applications can be submitted until 9 August.

The Faculty of Economics offers bachelor’s and follow-up master’s programs focused on economics, management, and data studies. Applicants may apply for programs such as Economic and Regional Geography, Information Management, or Business Administration and Management, including part-time study options and courses taught in Cheb. “The faculty also offers the English-language program Management and Digital Technology, which prepares students for careers in international companies operating in the Czech-Bavarian border region,” said Vice-Dean for Studies Jan Tlučhoř.

At the Faculty of Arts, applicants can choose from archaeology, history, philosophy, international relations, social and cultural anthropology, and social work. Follow-up master’s options also include Philosophy for Artificial Intelligence. Applications close on 31 August.
