The discussion and author reading titled Viktorie Hanišová – Paths to Literature and Translation will be held by the Faculty of Education of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen on Tuesday, April 21, at 9:30. The event will combine excerpts from the author’s work with an open discussion on writing, language, and pedagogy. Visitors will gain insight into the background of book creation and literary translation.
“Hanišová, the author of award-winning prose such as the novel Mushroom Picker, explores powerful social and psychological themes in her work. Meeting her will offer students and the public a unique opportunity to gain insight into literary and translation practice and to be inspired by her professional journey,” said Eva Skopečková, Head of the Department of English Language. According to her, the connection between literature, language, and education adds another dimension to the event, particularly appreciated by those interested in language teaching or creative writing.
The author is a graduate of the Faculty of Education at Charles University. She currently works as a primary school teacher. In addition to writing, she also translates from English and German. Her translation of the novel Djinns was nominated for the Magnesia Litera Award 2025.
