Press Release Public Exhibition
Illustrations created by students of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty
of Design and Art take the visitors through the history of the University. The
exhibition will be on display until 3 October.
"From
time to time, it's important to remember who we are and where we came from. I
believe that the exhibition, which was created to commemorate the 30th
anniversary of the University, will provoke this thought. The exhibition is an
acknowledgment of all those who created and have been creating the University
of West Bohemia, and I wish the University many successes in the years to come,
and above all many motivated young people who will further develop it," says Rector Miroslav Holeček.
The importance of the event was highlighted
by the Governor of the Pilsen Region, Rector Emeritus Ilona Mauritzová, and
Mayor of the City of Pilsen Martin Baxa. Among the guests were also the Chair
of the UWB Board of Directors and the Director of the University Hospital in
Pilsen, Václav Šimánek.
Exhibition display panels depict an artistically created timeline that recapitulates and places in a broader social context not only the most important milestones of the past thirty years of the University's life but also events from the time before its establishment when the University of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Education operated in Pilsen. The exhibition also includes portraits of five Rectors. Visitors become familiar with selected achievements of Faculties, Research Centres, and Institutes through short graphic stories, which were created by students of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, namely from the studios Didactic Illustration and Comics and Illustrations for Children, under the guidance of renowned illustrators Renáta Fučíková and Marie Kohoutová. The topics presented on the exhibition panels are a selection from the book "30 Years of the University of West Bohemia", which will be published by UWB to celebrate its jubilee.
