The ceremonial meeting of the faculty´s academic community held at the occasion of inauguration of the new Dean took place in presence of top representatives of the University of West Bohemia, artistic and state institutions and other distinguished guests including Dean Emeritus Josef Mištera. Vojtěch Aubrecht received the Chain of office from the hands of Bedřich Kocman, the head of the faculty´s Academic Senate.
In his speech, the new Dean who took office on 16 January 2022, highlighted the work of his predecessor, who founded the faculty and headed it until mid-January this year.
„Josef Mištera worked until the last moments as a Dean of the faculty, as he said, so that he could hand over a diamond. To bring the faculty into orbit, from which the force of gravity can no longer pull it back to the ground. And he succeeded. I am taking over a faculty that is unique and has gained a strong position on a national and international scale. I take over a faculty with the best colleagues, academics and other staff one could wish for. I take over a faculty with seven hundred amazing and talented students. I take the faculty over alongside a team in which I have unconditional trust and whose member is also Josef Mištera, who continues to guarantee continuity with his visions and his determination," said Vojtěch Aubrecht.
The Rector of the University of West Bohemia, Miroslav Holeček, who stood at the very birth of the art faculty, also gave a speech at the inauguration ceremony. "I was very lucky to be able to follow in reality what seems to be almost a fairy tale story, and even become a small part of it at times. I still remember my first meeting with Associate Professor Mištera when he told me about his dream - an absolutely unrealistic dream. But then a number of things began to happen, the sequence of events, negotiations, bargaining, arranging, which I watched with amazement and endless admiration. The Institute of Art and Design was established, later the Faculty of Design and Art. This beautiful building was bulit and it symbolizes very accurately what this faculty brings to the university, the city, the region and the entire Czech Republic," said Rector Holeček.
