The EUPeace conference: European universities seek joint responses to the challenges of our time

EUPeace University

A conference of nine universities associated in the European alliance EUPeace is currently taking place in Pilsen. Discussions are focusing on the use of artificial intelligence in education and research, as well as topics related to women's health and social sustainability.

How can justice, peace, and inclusivity be promoted in a world increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence? The EUPeace 2025 conference provides an interdisciplinary platform for discussing the implications of artificial intelligence for social conflicts, environmental justice, migration, human rights, and global health. The EUPeace Conference 2025, subtitled Advancing Justice, Peace and Inclusiveness in Times of AI, is taking place from September 22 to 24 at the Parkhotel in Pilsen and at the University of West Bohemia.

The international conference of 200 academics began on Monday with introductory lectures on the use of AI in the Czech Republic and at the University of West Bohemia, and continued on Tuesday with parallel panels on climate change, migration, human rights, and health. On Wednesday, September 24, Creative Spaces will take place – workshops and discussions that will connect the academic sphere with art, civic engagement, and women's health. What can you expect?

Creative Space 1, Beyond the Places of Pain – focused on the return of memory and trauma from the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with artistic interventions, visual and audio elements.

Creative Space 2, Framing, enabling, and teaching the concept of justice in the context of climate change – a discussion on how education reflects climate change, justice, and what a change of perspective means in teaching and society.

Creative Space 3, Social Mediation and Inclusive Justice: Bridging Grassroots Knowledge and Academic Perspectives in Europe – practical ways to connect grassroots community experiences and academia on issues of inclusion and fair dialogue.

Creative Space 4, Digital Tools and Women’s Pelvic Health Awareness – a focus on modeling, simulation, and digital technologies in women's health, including a discussion on the diagnosis and awareness of pelvic floor disorders.

Why is it worth coming? These Wednesday workshops, conducted in English, offer more than just expert lectures—they enable dialogue, experience sharing, and the involvement of people outside the academic sphere: designers, clinicians, students, activists, and the general public. If you are interested in how technology can contribute to improving quality of life, or how education is changing in relation to global challenges such as climate and justice, head to the campus of the University of West Bohemia in Bory. The complete program can be found here.

"For us, this is not only an academic event, but also an opportunity to show that universities are not isolated institutions. They are active partners in building a Europe based on cooperation, innovation, and critical dialogue," said Miroslav Lávička, rector of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, at the opening of the conference. He emphasized that artificial intelligence is one of the most topical issues of our time and that universities should play a key role in its responsible and ethical use.

Pilsen, which is celebrating 730 years since its founding this year, became the center of an international university meeting for several days. Representatives of universities from Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Türkiye, Finland, Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ukraine came to the city.

"The EUPeace Alliance provides a unique platform where universities can inspire each other and seek common ways to face the challenges of today's world," was heard during the meeting. According to the participants, joint projects, student exchanges, and research initiatives should contribute not only to the development of science but also to strengthening European cohesion.
