Together for Míša: Help our colleague, teacher, and a mother

In the summer, Michaela Pešková, a beloved UWB teacher and mother of three, suffered a brain hemorrhage. She now faces a long journey toward returning to everyday life. Faculty of Education at the UWB has launched a public fundraiser to support her treatment, rehabilitation, and her family’s needs.

Associate Professor Michaela Pešková, who has worked at the Faculty of Education of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen for many years, was taken into medical care in mid-July after a sudden massive brain hemorrhage. Since then, she has been confined to a hospital bed, and after treatment she faces a long period of intensive rehabilitation and a gradual return to normal life. The Faculty of Education has therefore launched a public fundraiser on the Donio platform called “Together for Míša”, aimed at supporting her treatment and the family deeply affected by her illness. Michaela is the mother of three children, two of whom are of preschool and school age.

Michaela is not only an excellent teacher and colleague, but also a person who has always managed to share her energy and support with others. Now she is the one who needs it. After consulting with her family, we decided to start this fundraiser and help her and her family get through this difficult time,” said the Dean of the Faculty, Pavel Mentlík.

The fundraiser will help cover the costs of medical and assistive equipment – such as an electric wheelchair and other devices necessary for therapy and daily functioning. The money will also be used for specialized care, home treatment, long-term nursing support, and the family’s everyday expenses.

Support is coming not only from colleagues, but also from students, alumni, and the wider public. “The amount of support we are receiving is incredible. We deeply appreciate every donation and every word of encouragement. It helps us get through days that are far from easy,” said Michaela’s husband, Petr Pešek.

The faculty launched the fundraiser on the Donio platform, which transfers 100% of donated funds to those in need. This means anyone who wishes to show solidarity and support the academic community during a difficult moment can help. “We thank everyone who chooses to contribute and help Michaela and her family on their journey back to the life she loved – at home, among her loved ones, and among the future teachers she so passionately prepared for their professional paths,” added Dean Mentlík.
