UWB is preparing a summer program for all. This year offers 15 summer schools

Press Release Public Education

Hundreds of both young and adult participants attend summer schools at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen every year. These are focused on areas such as foreign languages, art, cybernetics, or playful economics. Registration for most of them is already open, and spots fill up quickly.

International Summer Language School / July 7 – 25, 2025

The International Summer Language School, organized for the 35th time by the Institute of Language Training at the University of West Bohemia, will offer courses in nine languages this year. The program will run from July 7 to July 25.

The available courses include Portuguese, German, English, Italian, French, Russian, Spanish, Arabic, and Czech for foreigners – both general and professionally oriented courses – at all language levels. The summer school is open to participants of all ages. Courses are available in one-, two-, or three-week formats, with some offering morning or afternoon-only classes. For children aged 6 to 11, an active day camp with English is once again available, along with popular English courses for teenagers aged 12 to 17 and French courses for youth aged 12 to 16. All teachers are qualified professionals.

A new feature this year is English courses for seniors aged 60 and over. “We see added value in the fact that seniors will be in a similar age category, preventing some from opting out simply because they feel uncomfortable studying alongside younger students,” said Zdeňka Hončarová, the main coordinator of ISLS.

The prices of summer language courses have remained unchanged for the past seven years. Detailed information, including pricing, is available on the website www.isls.zcu.cz, where applications can already be submitted. The deadline is May 19.

After a break, the fashion design course returns, led by Glasgow-based fashion designer Dawn Kelso. Photography enthusiasts will enjoy the opportunity to explore the theme of meta-portrait under the guidance of renowned photographer Libuše Jarcovjáková. For the first time, we will also focus on paper design—origami as a design form will be introduced by artist Ilan Garibi, who has been working with origami for 15 years,” said Lenka Kodýtková, the operational director of ArtCamp.

Courses are suitable for the general public, from beginners to advanced students, as well as for current and future art students (minimum age: 15, high school students). ArtCamp offers courses in both Czech and English. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM in the studios of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia campus in Bory, Pilsen, and in open-air settings.

UPDATE 27 MARCH 2025:

Another 15 summer schools will be added to the 15 summer schools at UWB:

eNCéčko / 21 - 25 July, 2025

The first year of the summer school under the name eNCéčko will be organized this year by the Department of Machining Technology of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. It will take place right in the faculty building on the university campus. The summer school is intended for students in the 3rd-4th year of high school. "We anticipate that students from secondary vocational schools might be particularly interested, but we will start from the beginning, so other secondary school students need not be afraid to apply," said the lecturer Jiří Hruška, Czech champion in CNC milling and also a student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering with a focus on machining technology.

Participants will have an intensive one-week course full of practical experience. They will learn the basics and more advanced procedures of working in CAM software, try out workshop programming of CNC machines, find out what CNC programming looks like in practice, and gain valuable experience from experts in the field. They will move around in the state-of-the-art laboratory of the Department of Machining Technology, where a number of research activities take place during the academic year, and thus get a taste of the atmosphere of a university environment in advance.

Participation fee: CZK 1,000 (includes lunch and professional facilities)

Interested students can apply via the eNCéčko summer school website until 31 May.
