The traditional conference of the first year students was hosted by the HJ 100 lecture room of the Department of nursing and midwifery at the Faculty of Health Care Studies of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen on 24^th January 2024.

The conference has been organized by several first year students of the General Nursing programme. It was opened by the Head of the department Jiří Frei, who also supported the students before presenting their outputs, and was also attended by, for example, the year coordinator of VSS1 Jana Nová Holoubková and assistants of the department.

The students presented in three blocks their first experiences from their professional practice in the first semester of their studies, they introduced the attendees to the individual workplaces, their focus and activities. The audience also learned about the ways of providing nursing care and meeting the bio-psycho-social and spiritual needs of clients or patients.

As a part of each presentation was the self-reflection of the students, in which they described their strengths and weaknesses in their professional practice and also the experience gained. They also evaluated the workplace and suggested possible changes.

Positive emotions could be felt from the students' outputs, which contributed to the very good atmosphere of the conference. The students also prepared refreshments and the participation of external collaborators and mentors of the professional practice and their positive reactions to the whole event was a pleasant surprise. The year coordinator and the assistants present evaluated the communication skills of the students during their own presentation.

The whole event had a positive benefit for both students and guests, not only because of the transfer of up-to-date information from professional practice, but also as a social event.
