Four nominations for this year's Golden Ribbon were received by students and graduates of the Studio of Didactic Illustration under the direction of Renáta Fučíková and Eva Bartošová from the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art. In the literary part Marto Kelbl was nominated for his book "Neither a girl nor a boy" (non-fiction for children and youth), in the art part Tereza Piskláková for her book "Mazal tov!" (Marto Kelbl's book "There and Back" was nominated for the artwork of the year and Tomáš Staněk was nominated in the comics for children and youth category for his book "Holidays".
The Golden Ribbon Award is announced by the Czech Section of IBBY - Society of Friends of Books for Young People in cooperation with the Children's Book Illustrators Club, the Association of Translators, the National Pedagogical Museum and Library of J. A. Comenius and the Memorial of National Literature. In addition to awarding the best titles, the organisers are organising accompanying programmes aimed at increasing literacy, developing a relationship with books and promoting critical thinking.
The awards were announced on Thursday 6 June 2024 at the Museum of Literature in Prague. The nominations went to Marto Kelbl for his book "There and Back" in the category of artistic achievement of the year, where the jury appreciated the book's imaginative, playful and witty nature, and Tereza Piskláková for her book "Mazal tov!" in the category of non-fiction for children and youth. The book introduces the story of the ancient Jewish people to readers in the Czechia.
The work of students of the Didactic Illustration Studio can be seen at the exhibition of bachelor and diploma theses in the building of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, open until 25 June on weekdays from 10:00 to 20:00 and exceptionally on the weekend of 22-23 June from 10:00 to 18:00. Admission is free.
