Further Education FST High school students
For the very first time this year, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of UWB offered a new summer school focused on CNC machining. During the intensive one-week program, high school students, especially in the 3rd and 4th year of study, tried working in SolidCAM software, gained practical experience with programming CNC machines and took home not only a self-made multi-axis machined part, but also an internationally recognized certificate. All this under the guidance of Jiří Hruška, a student of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and also the Czech Republic's CNC milling champion.
The program of the week-long summer school was completely filled. Participants got an insight into the basics of technical documentation and the representation of machine parts on a drawing. At the EMCO machine, the high school students practiced the acquired basics of NC programming. One of the days was devoted to SolidCAM software and a component programming test. At the end of the week it was the turn of machining on the MCU450 machine. The program included an introduction to basic fixtures, material processing technologies and the preparation of blanks for production. There were also demonstrations of 3D printing, work with microscopes and excursions to the hall of the Regional Institute of Technology of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of UWB.
The high school students were interested in machining, and therefore the lecturer Jiří Hruška prepared for them also demonstrations of multi-axis machining and a demonstration of the production of drawbars for the UWB student racing formula. "In addition, they also looked into the areas of 3D printing or metrology. But the biggest reward for me was their reactions at the end - some of them asked when the next edition would be, and two of the participants even decided to apply to our faculty. This made me incredibly happy," says the lecturer and student Jiří Hruška.
Friday's closing ceremony was also attended by representatives of SolidCAM, who officially presented the participants with internationally recognized certificates. All participants also received certificates of completion of the summer school and took away the machined parts they produced. "I would like to thank for the great organization, friendly atmosphere and super attitude of the lecturers. If the summer school will be held again next year, I will definitely sign up again," said Stanislav Kropáč, a student from Pilsen, summing up his impressions.
"From the very first day, I tried to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere - it's the holidays after all, so let's all enjoy the summer school. I prepared a program that was supposed to make the participants as familiar as possible with the world of CNC machining during the week - and I think it really worked," concluded Jiří Hruška. According to the organizers, it is already clear that the first pilot year of the eNCéčko summer school will not be the last.
