A team of students from the General Nursing programme at the Faculty of Health Care Studies of the University of West Bohemia took part in this year's Klání věků charity event. The students were ready to provide first aid during the event.

On 28 September, the fifth year of the popular charity event, Klání věků (Joust of the Ages), took place at the Šídlovák Ranch in Pilsen-Bolevec, this time with the subtitle Phoenix Uprising. The organizers focused the event on supporting charitable projects and offered a varied program, where both history lovers and those who wanted to contribute to a good cause came to their own.

Among the participants was a group of students from the Faculty of Health Care Studies of the University of UWB in Pilsen, specifically from the study programme General Nursing at the Department of Nursing and Midwifery. Hana Arbetová, Victoria Klojdová and Adéla Kubečková from the 2nd and 3rd year of study took part in the event as members of the medical team, which was available in case of first aid.

Their presence was really needed: "The event was not without injuries," said Hana Arbetová. "We dealt with injuries ranging from cuts and bruises to a head injury to one of the participants." The injured participants received the necessary care on the spot. The entire event always has a special place reserved for historical duels and blunt weapons are usually used. The head injury to one of the participants, namely a gladiator, occurred during a duel with a knight, and the gladiator was not wearing a headdress. He avoided the knight, but was nevertheless struck by a blunt sword, resulting in a scalp injury. Bleeding and mild shock followed. The gladiator was taken to the emergency room, where the ZČU students were praised for the way they treated the wound on the spot.

Students from the Faculty of Health Care Studies participated in this charity project for the second year. The programme of the event itself included performances by several historical groups, which showcased different eras of human history - from ancient Rome through the Middle Ages to the Seven Years' War. There was also a charity auction, which raised 8 thousand crowns, which will go to support the Exodus sheltered workshop. The day culminated with a concert.

The students of UWB contributed to the smooth running of the whole day and also represented the Faculty of Health Care Studies at the event.
