Michaela Krechovská Will Be the Head of the Faculty of Economics

Press Release University Employees

For the next four years, the Faculty will be headed by its current Dean. On Wednesday, November 3, all 12 members of the 15-member Academic Senate of the Faculty voted in her favour. Michaela Krechovská will begin her second term on March 1, 2022.

Michaela Krechovská, who has been leading the Faculty since March 2018, was the only candidate for the Dean’s office. She will thus continue her current mandate with a second four-year period, which will last until the end of February 2026.

Doc. Ing. Michaela Krechovská, Ph.D. (born 1982) completed master and doctoral studies in the field of Business Economics and Management at the Faculty of Economics of the University of West Bohemia. She was conferred the academic title "Docent" at the Faculty of Economics of the Technical University of Liberec. Prior to taking the Dean's office, she was the head of the Department of Finance and Accounting of the Faculty of Economics. Thanks to her efforts, the Faculty of Economics was certified as the "Partner in Learning" by the world's leading professional body of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Michaela Krechovská is, therefore, the Faculty coordinator for activities relating to this international certification. She is a co-founder and since 2015 Deputy Head of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the Faculty of Economics.

Thanks to her hard work, the Faculty received accreditation for four bachelor, three master, and two doctoral programmes. Since 2019, the Faculty offers a double degree programme Business Economics and Management, implemented in cooperation with the Finnish Häme University of Applied Sciences. Those interested can also attend the newly accredited certificate programmes Tax Specialist and Tourism Manager.

According to Dean Michaela Krechovská, the Faculty, in cooperation with other UWB Parts and regional partners, has to develop an attractive educational offer, both in Pilsen and Cheb, where the Faculty operates since 1990. In terms of education, she wants to support internationalization and interdisciplinarity. Therefore, the offer of interdisciplinary study programmes Information Management, Economic and Regional Geography or Civil Engineering - Modern Buildings, should be extended in the future. The international dimension of the study should be strengthened by another double-degree programme, prepared in cooperation with the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Amberg-Weiden, or an interdisciplinary triple-degree programme currently being discussed with German universities. At the same time, Michaela Krechovská wants to involve external experts from the Czech and international environment to be active in the educational processes.

The interdisciplinarity and international dimension should also be reflected in science and research. According to the Dean, it is also important that the scientific outputs are interpreted in the application sphere and the public sector, which is why she wants to support, for example, research into the impact of global change on society and the environment.
