We invite you to a lecture by Claus von Carnap-Bornheim entitled: Viking Age Haithabu - Research and managing of a UNESCO-World-Heritage Site.

Lecture by prof. Clause von Carnap-Bornheim deals with the Viking royal city of Haithabu in Schleswig-Holstein. It is one of the most important European sites of the early Middle Ages. Its uniqueness lies, among other things, in the fact that this city disappears in the 11th century and has never been restored. It was therefore never damaged by later construction and remains almost untouched in its original surroundings. The lecture not only describes the site, findings and history, but also deals with the method of its protection and presentation to the public. The city of Haithabu, together with the Danewerk fortifications, was included in the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) list in 2018. The lecture also approaches the issue of membership in the UNESCO organization in relation to the monument itself.
