The PLASY – REMINISCENCE exhibition commemorates the groundbreaking cultural events 9&9 (1981) and Hermit (1992–1999) connected to the monastery in Plasy. The opening takes place on June 8th at 4:30 PM in the Great Synagogue in Pilsen.

Intended for: širokou veřejnost

The exhibition commemorates cultural events that took place in the complex of the former Cistercian monastery in Plasy near Pilsen and whose significance transcended regional boundaries. In autumn 1981, it was the 9&9 exhibition presenting works by two dozen photographers from the independent and alternative scene – "core" photographers who had previously exhibited in the foyer of Prague's Činoherní klub: Libuše Jarcovjáková, Dušan Šimánek, Jiří Poláček, Miroslav Pokorný, Dušan Pálka, Pavel Štecha, Bořivoj Hořínek, Jan Malý, Ivan Lutterer, Zora Rampáková, Vratislav Hůrka, Jaroslav Bárta, Bohdan Holomíček, Pavel Vavroušek, Irene Stehli, Ivo Gil, Daniela Horníčková, Jindřich Štreit and guests Ján Rečo, Antonín Malý and Lubomír Kotek.

The exhibition prepared by Anna Fárová and Joska Skalník had international resonance and the opening was attended not only by the photographers but also by distinguished guests such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Marc Riboud, Sue Davis, Martine Franck, Jan Klusák, Adriena Šimotová, Olga Havlová and others. The second project connected to the Plasy monastery ran repeatedly in the 1990s in the form of creative symposiums under the name Hermit, and over 8 years more than 600 artists from around the world participated. Visual documentation has been preserved for both projects, and both photography cycles recall events that have their place in the history of the Pilsen region while also extending into European cultural context.

Photographers: Bohdan Holomíček, Marc Riboud, Martine Franck, Jiří Poláček, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Iren Stehli, Dušan Šimánek, Antonín Malý, Gert de Ruijter, Daniel Šperl, Radovan Kodera and others.

Prepared by: Miloš Vojtěchovský and Radovan Kodera in collaboration with Bohdan Holomíček, Iren Stehli, Dušan Šimánek, Bořivoj Hořínek, Jiří Poláček Jr. and others.

Michael Delia, a participant in the Hermit symposiums, will perform at the opening.

The exhibition runs until October 31st and is held thanks to support from the City of Pilsen and the Rudolf Löwy Foundation.
