Vendula Dušková, a student at the Faculty of Education at ZČU, is among the top Czech para-swimmers and is set to compete at the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games in Paris. Despite being in a wheelchair since childhood,

Swimming didn’t captivate Vendula immediately, but through rehabilitation related to her disability, she gradually fell in love with it. Now, she can proudly display medals from both European and World Championships. The 26-year-old athlete mainly competes in the SM8, SB7, and S8 categories. Her favorite events are the 400-meter freestyle and the 200-meter breaststroke.

For Vendula, this will be her third participation in the Paralympics. She has already competed in her discipline in Rio de Janeiro (2016) and Tokyo (2021), where she was one of the faces of the Czech Paralympic Committee’s campaign. However, she has yet to bring home a medal from the games.

She last shined at the IDM 2023 World Cup in Berlin, where, over the course of four challenging days, she reached the finals in events such as the 50, 100, and 200-meter breaststroke, 200 and 400-meter individual medley, and 400 and 800-meter freestyle. In the 800-meter freestyle, she even secured second place. In the 100-meter breaststroke, she met the qualifying standard for the Paris Paralympics and improved her personal best.

The official opening of the games will take place on August 28, 2024, and the games will run until September 8.

We’ll be rooting for her to succeed in Paris!
