Animation students excel in international competition

Alumni Students Achievements

Student films from the Sutnar Faculty compete at the World Festival of Animated Film in Zagreb and the Anifilm Festival in Liberec.

This year, the Animation Studio of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia celebrates extraordinary success on the prestigious festival scene. Eleven student films have been selected for two renowned competitions, surpassing international rivals.

The expert committee of the World Festival of Animated Film in Zagreb (Animafest Zagreb) has selected for this year's student competition an ambitious original film by student Tan Lui Chan called Keep Out, which tells an exaggerated story of people who keep themselves isolated from the dangerous world, living in their small rooms.

The Animation Studio has several hot candidates in the prestigious Anifilm Festival in Liberec. This international competition has selected a clip by graduate Michaela Dušková, an experimental film by second-year student Bára Holzknechtová and also the aforementioned animated film Keep Out, created by Tan Lui Chan as her bachelor´s work.

In the category of the national competition Czech Horizon, the Animation Studio is represented by Natálie Nešporová and her films Spider Symphony and Human Storm and by Vojtěch Haken with his film The Patron's Body. Viktoria Jaroš and graduate Marie Nováčková compete in the Video Clips category. The nominees in the Custom Production category include Veronika Chocenská and her film  Blood Circulation and the film The Story of the Koněprusy Trilobite by graduate Alžběta Burešová.

Congratulations to all students! The Anifilm International Festival of Animated Films, where you can see the festival premiere of films from the Animation Studio, will be held in Liberec from 7 to 12 May 2024.
