On the weekend of 25th and 26th May, students of the Faculty of Health Care Studies of the study programme Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy actively participated in the event of the association Roska Plzeň "Multiple Sclerosis Weekend", which was aimed at supporting people with multiple sclerosis. The event was held to inform patients and their family members about the possibilities of treatment and rehabilitation associated with this chronic disease.
Our students contributed to this event by educating patients on various occupational therapy techniques. Among the methods presented was working with the Manufit, which is an aid used to improve and maintain range of motion. Therapeutic masses were also demonstrated to help increase hand muscle strength, which is key to improving patients' daily functionality.
Participants were also able to try Nordic walking with physiotherapy students, a form of walking with poles that is beneficial for improving fitness and coordination. In addition, students provided information on back pain prevention, which is a common problem for people with multiple sclerosis.
The Multiple Sclerosis Weekend was a great opportunity for Faculty of Health Care Studies' students to apply their knowledge in practice and at the same time contribute to improving the quality of life of patients with multiple sclerosis.
