For the University of West Bohemia, this event is a clear signal that it is necessary to have its own mass warning system. During this event, the university was dependent on other services - in particular, the Fire and Rescue Service's communication by SMS and the communication of the Police of the Czech Republic. UWB has done its best to inform students and staff via emails and social networks, yet it is aware that it needs to be faster in this regard. UWB has been working on the introduction of a mass warning system for six months. The school had the opportunity to test this system during an IZS (active shooter attack) exercise in September. UWB will purchase the system before the end of this year and will start to put it into operation at the beginning of 2025. This will require the cooperation of the entire university. The system can send out quick SMS and voice calls for the visually impaired.
The police and the management of UWB thank all students and staff for handling this emergency situation. It turned out that all the trainings and exercises that have taken place here in the past were worthwhile.
The students who called the emergency line after hearing sounds resembling gunfire acted correctly. This procedure was confirmed by the police.
