The logo symbolically accompanying the entire Olympics is inspired by Šumava's landmark – Špičák Mountain, where alpine skiing, snowboarding and skicross competitions will take place. "I wanted to create a simple but strong symbol that would be memorable. The logo is based on the mountain's shape, the central wave resembles a ski slope, and I added a snowflake motif. The colors reference both the Plzen Region's logo and coat of arms, as well as the Olympic rings," said Leona Karabová about her work.
The logo design won a competition organized by Plzen Region targeting high school students and students of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art at the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (FDU UWB). The condition was to capture themes of the region, youth and Olympic values. Leona's design impressed with its professionalism, clarity and aesthetic purity.
The ceremonial unveiling of the logo was attended by Plzen Region Governor Kamal Farhan, Czech Olympic Committee representative Filip Šuman, games ambassador and hockey player Pavel Francouz, regional representatives, organizers and Sutnar Faculty management. "Art is always a form of communication. While in fine arts our partner can remain somewhat abstract, in applied arts and design it is desirable for them to be as concrete as possible. Therefore, the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art does everything in its power to facilitate direct dialogue between students and the applied sphere," said faculty dean Vojtěch Aubrecht.
The Graphic Design and Visual Communication Studio at Sutnar Faculty UWB in Pilsen, where Leona studies, focuses on developing communication tools across a broad spectrum – from typography through animation and audiovisual techniques to comprehensive visual identities. Emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary overlaps, teamwork, professional ethics and talent development in the context of current social challenges. Students regularly participate in international competitions, workshops and exhibitions.
The Winter Youth Olympic Games will take place in January 2027. Železná Ruda will serve as its center, with competitions also held in Klatovy, Domažlice, Sušice, Nýrsko and German Hohenzollern.
