For 14 years, archaeological organizations around the world have been offering programs and activities for visitors of all ages to mark International Archaeology Day. On Saturday, 18 October 2025, from 10:00 to 18:00, our departments (Sedláčkova 38) will open their laboratories to the public. Visitors will have the opportunity to touch the past, discover how archaeological research is carried out, and even hear the music of our ancestors.
The archaeology program will guide visitors through the entire process of archaeological research – from prospection and fieldwork, with examples from the department’s Czech and international projects, to post-excavation analysis. The atmosphere of the distant past will also be brought to life through replicas of prehistoric musical instruments.
The anthropology program will take place directly in the laboratories of the Department of Anthropology. Here, visitors will be introduced to methods of biological anthropology, try out fun activities to learn more about the human skeleton, and see evidence of deformities and diseases that once afflicted our ancestors.
