Floods in Czechia: the University of West Bohemia appeals for the safety of students and employees

In recent days, the Czech Republic has been hit by a serious floods affecting the lives of thousands of people. While the floods are currently affecting mainly the regions east of Prague, the management of the University of West Bohemia is taking necessary steps to ensure safety of everybody.

The flood situation in the Pilsen and Karlovy Vary regions is relatively calm so far. The buildings of the University of West Bohemia are not in danger at the moment. However, we know that many of you are coming to us from different parts of the country for the first day of classes in the new academic year.

Safety first
The university management appeals to all teachers, students and employees to take care of their safety in this difficult situation and to follow the instructions of the crisis staffs and flood commissions of their regions. The first priority is to protect health and life, so the University asks that no one underestimate the situation and pay close attention to the current warnings.

Communication with faculties and preparation of measures
The Rector's Office of UWB has informed the deans and heads of the various units that the university management is monitoring the situation and preparing measures for all those affected. These measures will include assistance to students and staff whose lives or property have been affected by the floods.

If anyone affected by the flooding is experiencing problems or needs assistance with the start of lessons, please feel free to contact your faculty's student affair department on Monday.

Students can contact the Information and Counselling Centre of UWB
It is possible to come to the IPC in person or contact them via e-mail. In person, you can use the services from Monday to Thursday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Bory campus (room UI 213) or at the Kulturka (Sedláčkova 19). Appointments can also be made by phone at 377 631 350 or by email ipcentr@rek.zcu.cz. In case of sudden difficult situations, both crisis intervention and psychological counselling are available. In these cases, the team is available by email at krizovka@service.zcu.cz.
