International Aesthetic Conference Performativity, Narrativity, Descriptivity

Conference Students University

The Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Philosophy, ZČU together with the Society for Aesthetics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Slovak Association for Aesthetics cordially invite you to the upcoming international event.

The conference will explore the nature and relationship of three important dimensions of experiencing artwork, and possibly their significance in non-art aesthetic experience: narration as the articulation of a story; performance as the creation of a situation or the realization of a process and idea; and description as a manner by which to capture the properties of an object or environment.

On the one hand, the conference will deal with the contact of these dimensions, their only naturally accepted interconnection in artistic creations or other aesthetically acting creations or phenomena, but also with the transfer of these dimensions between artistic creations of different disciplines, or between aesthetic phenomena of different types. On the other hand, the conference will focus on the emphasis on their separateness in artistic production and theoretical reflection. These contacts and emphases can be explored, for example, in the context of reflections on the so-called performative turn in art, art theory and philosophy, in the context of the exploration of narratological practices, or with regard to the meaning and typologization of the practices of description. The event and all its related activities were attended by around 180 people over the four days. During the conference sessions, a number of leading experts gave invited lectures by aesthetician and philosopher from Charles University Prof. Vlastimil Zuska, Slovak aesthetician and philosopher Prof. Peter Michalovič from Comenius University in Bratislava and philosopher Assoc. In addition to the two varied conference days in three buildings, it was possible to take part in other additional activities - a tour of Loos' interiors and the opening of an exhibition of paintings by the academic painter Miloš Ševčík Sr. in the Gallery of the European House of the Pilsen Region Study and Research Library. This exhibition is open to the public free of charge until 24 November.
