Press Release University Public

This year for mothers with children from the St. Zdislava Home. New books or books in good condition can be brought to the branches of the University Library in Pilsen and Cheb throughout February. Anyone can participate.
This year, literature will be directed to the St. Zdislava Home in Pilsen for mothers with children in need, and it will be selected once again by the University Library of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen during the traditional February event "Donate a Book." Just like in the past six editions, anyone, including students, staff, and the general public, can donate books. The event is again linked to the International Book Giving Day, which falls on February 14.

The donated books should be ones that the donors themselves would enjoy reading to pass the time. "This year, we will again use literature from all genres, both for older readers and for children and youth," says Miloslava Faitová, the director of the University Library of the University of West Bohemia, who is pleased that the event receives positive feedback every year. "Last year, books were collected for the Psychiatric Clinic of the University Hospital in Pilsen. Nearly 2500 volumes were collected, the highest number in the entire history," she adds.

New books or books in good condition can be brought to the branches of the University Library throughout February. They can be delivered to the ZCU campus at Borská pole, in the Philosophical and Legal Library at Pětatřicátníků 16, in the Library of Health Studies at Sedláčková 31, in the Pedagogical Library at Klatovská 51, and in the Economic Library in Cheb at Hradební 22.

The selected books will be handed over to the St. Zdislava Home for mothers with children in need in March.

Thanks to the University Library of the University of West Bohemia, patients at the mentioned Psychiatric Clinic of the University Hospital in Pilsen could read the donated books last year. In 2022, the collection was held in support of the non-profit organization "Blízký soused." Before the annual coronavirus pause in 2020, the selected volumes went to the library of the Plzeň Prison, in 2019 to homes for seniors (SeneCura SeniorCentrum Plzeň and Baculus - Home of Peaceful Aging in Vejprnice), in 2018 to the Elementary School and Kindergarten for the Visually Impaired and Speech Impaired, and during the first edition in 2017, donated books went to the inpatient departments and LDN of the City Hospital Plzeň, Privamed, a.s., and the University Hospital in Pilsen.
