Historical sources dealing with the Seljuk period are particularly poor in detailing architectural achievements. Therefore, the only way to know the patrons and the years of foundation of the Friday mosques are the foundation inscriptions found in them. These inscriptions not only provide details about each building, but also give an insight into how these foundations were perceived and what kind of message these architectural ventures would carry.
The lecture will be held in English.
