Press Release Applicant Education
The Faculty of Education at the University of West Bohemia received 500 more applications than during the same period last year. In 2025, applicants submitted a total of 4,039 applications to this faculty. The most popular programs, as usual, were Primary School Teaching, Preschool Teaching, and Special Education. At the Faculty of Health Care Studies, 1,938 people showed interest in all bachelor’s programs. The most sought-after ones were Physiotherapy, General Nursing, and Emergency Medical Services.
An increase in interest has also continued at the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Economics. “At the Faculty of Economics, the most popular programs are Business Economics and Management, and Marketing Management. We were pleased by the rising interest in Economic and Regional Geography and Information Management, as well as in study programs offered in Cheb,” said Vice-Dean Jan Tlučhoř. The Dean of the Faculty of Law, where the five-year Law and Legal Science program attracts the most applicants, added: “This is due not only to the program’s engaging content with practical courses but also to the wide range of job opportunities for graduates and the faculty’s close-knit atmosphere.”
After a slight decline last year, technical faculties are also reporting growth. The Faculty of Applied Sciences received the most applications—913. Most applicants were interested in IT-related programs, especially Software Engineering and Computer Science. “We firmly hope this positive trend will translate not only into a higher number of admitted students but, more importantly, into more graduates. Society will need experts with deep knowledge of technical and scientific disciplines more than ever,” said Dean Miloš Železný.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering registered 680 applications, a 20% increase compared to last year. “The highest percentage increase is in follow-up master’s programs, which shows a growing interest in specialized professional education,” said Vice-Dean Roman Pechánek. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering received a total of 528 applications, most of them for the Mechanical Engineering program.
The Faculty of Philosophy also attracted more applicants, receiving 1,581 applications—150 more than after the first round last year. For several years now, the most interest has been in the International Relations – Area Studies program. “Even though we’re seeing a rise in interest, we will give applicants the chance to apply for each program again in the second round,” said Vice-Dean for External Relations Petr Krištuf.
Despite the higher number of applications this year, several other faculties also plan to open second rounds. These will gradually be launched by the Faculties of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Sciences, and Economics. A detailed list of programs available in the second round will be published on the ZČU e-application website in June and July.
Special rules apply to the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, where the entrance exams with talent assessments take place in the autumn and winter. In spring, the faculty opens only follow-up master’s programs ending with the MgA. degree. In total, the faculty received 875 applications.
