Boris Jirků, known for his expressive figurative paintings and illustrations inspired by Latin American literature, will present a collection of works reflecting his unique artistic style at the New Stage of the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen.
"In the exhibition you will find a selection of my illustrative work, especially bibliophile, which is not often seen - for example, Edison by Nezval, Song of Songs by Seifert or Stars of the Source by Řezníček. On the ground floor there are large-format canvases - landscapes from journeys, and upstairs there is a kind of 'Orbis Pictus', the world in pictures. One wall is dedicated to what they used to call engaged painting, and I never thought I would be involved in that. But the situation with Putin bothered me so much that I had to paint myself out of it," Jirků said.
The exhibition entitled Left Handed is part of the long-term efforts of the J. K. Tyl Theatre to develop cultural events in Pilsen not only through theatre productions, but also through exhibitions of important, mainly regional artists.
The exhibition is held under the auspices of Eliška Bartáková, Councillor for Culture and Monument Care of the City of Pilsen, and Libor Picka, Member of the Council of the Pilsen Region for Culture, Monument Care, and Tourism.
