Fostering Cooperation with Taiwanese Yuan Ze University

International Cooperation University

A four-member delegation led by Prof. Fu from Taiwan's Yuan Ze University visited UWB in Pilsen from 10 to 12 January 2024 to discuss cooperation in education and research.

Prof. Fu has already started cooperation with the University of West Bohemia 10 years ago with Dr. Schuster from the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Arts and with the research centre NTC where he was at a research stay. The aim of this visit was to strengthen the cooperation between both universities.

On Thursday 11 January in the morning a joint workshop for Yuan Ze University representatives was held at the Faculty of Arts  with the Vice-Dean for Strategy and Development Dr. Šlehoferová, the Dean Dr. Šanc, and with the management of the Department of Philosophy  Dr. Dostálová, Dr. Wagnerová and Dr. Schuster, where specific possibilities for cooperation were presented and discussed. In particular, the joint provision of doctoral study programmes and exchange visits of master's students seem to be promising. The delegation was most interested in research in the field of philosophy and ethics of artificial intelligence, but other joint research topics such as international relations and food anthropology (food science) were also discussed.

In the afternoon, the delegation met with the Vice-Rector for Educational Planning and Student Affairs Assoc. Prof.  Kohout. By the end of the meeting, the Vice-Rector Assoc. Prof. Kohout handed in to Prof. Fu a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the rectors of the two institutions was handed over, which establishes a formal framework for possibility of cooperation between Yuan Ze University and all UWB units. Dr. Suchá from the UWB International Office guided the delegation around the UWB Bory campus. During the visit to the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art, arranged by Markéta Kohoutková, Assistant to the FDULS Dean, the delegation was highly interested in works of students from the Graphic Design and Illustration Studio, namely the section of comics and illustration for children.

On Friday, an informal meeting was held with representatives of the Department of Philosophy, upon whose invitation the Taiwanese delegation had come. In addition to the joint project activities, different didactic methods in teaching analytical philosophy and logic or Buddhist and Taoist perspectives in exploring the relationship between mind and body were discussed. The Taiwanese delegation also provided an opportunity for the joint international celebration of World Logic Day, which is commemorated annually on 14 January.
