On Thursday 24th November, the Student Film Club at the Department of Philosophy of the Faculty of Arts of ZČU hosted a screening of the film The Boundaries of Love, followed by a debate with the film's director Tomasz Wiński.

The Boundaries of Love is closely linked to the manifesto New Czech Intimacy, which seeks to explain what contemporary Czech directors, - specifically Tomasz Wiński, Šimon Holý, and Tereza Vejvodová - are trying to achieve with their new films, as well as identify what is currently missing in contemporary cinema; honesty and authenticity, and this aspiration is why they try to express suppressed emotions through their own films. Tomasz Wiński writes in his manifesto that he is trying to find new forms and authentic content.

The ideas of the manifesto are mirrored in the film Boundaries of Love, which deals with relational communication and honesty in relationships. It opens up themes such as pushing and crossing the boundaries of intimacy, trust or sharing emotions and experiences with each other. The thematic framework in which the film is set is experimentation in the open relationship of the protagonists Hanky (Hana Vagnerová) and Petr (Matyáš Řezníček).

The audience, which consisted of approximately 50 students, evaluated the film very positively, as evidenced by the subsequent discussion with the director. The audience shared their thoughts on the plot of the work, and the central theme of the debate was honest communication, which seems to be an important part of a functioning romantic relationship for the young generation. Tomasz Wiński stressed how important such communication is and that it requires great courage and deep trust from one person to another.
