Cooperation Students Education
Originally, the students of the University of West Bohemia were to travel to the partner university in Reich for a few days and present and discuss the cross-border topics of their two-semester thesis together with the Bavarian students as part of the communication practice. However, due to the closed borders, it was necessary to improvise and the workshop was finally held online via a two-day video conference.
The programme of the online workshop in German started on Thursday 14 May at 10:00 with an introduction by the certificate programme supervisor Daniela Blahutková. This was followed by a lecture by a Bavarian guest and a discussion, after which three students each presented their presentations. After the lectures and presentations, a lively discussion took place, in which all the students joined in turn, which was closely monitored by the guarantor of the Cultural Practice in the Borderlands course, Lada Wagnerová. The linguistic aspect of the speeches was monitored by native speaker Julie Průcha-Wittmann and the whole videoconference was moderated by Jitka Paitlová.
A big thank you not only to the well-prepared students, but also to the two Bavarian guests who shared with us authentic experiences from the other side of the (then closed) border. On Thursday, the guest was Karl Reitmeier, a Bavarian journalist writing about Czech issues, who regularly cooperates with the certificate program at ZČU. On Friday, May 15, Dominik Fechner, a student at the University of Reich, who completed the certificate on the Bavarian side last year and was even a student at Erasmus in the winter semester of this academic year at the Department of Philosophy in Pilsen, took on the role of guest. The current insights of the guests from Bavaria were aptly complemented by student presentations on Czech-Bavarian labour law, economic relations, transport links, beer production, language teaching and Baroque art.
The certificate programme Competences for the Czech-Bavarian border region was supported by the European Regional Development Fund on a pilot basis. We have now successfully completed our third year and look forward to the next. Students across the university can enroll in selected additional subjects and receive a certificate for their diploma.
