The University Library of the University of West Bohemia is organizing a program for the children of university employees on the night of Friday, June 12, to Saturday, June 13. Once again this year, it is participating in the international "Night with Andersen" project to promote children's reading. "This year's patron of Night with Andersen will be Miloš Macourek, who would have celebrated his 100th birthday this year. In addition to physical activities, children can look forward to games inspired by characters such as Mach and Šebestová, and there will certainly be some surprises as well," said Miloslava Faitová, director of the University Library.

The children will spend the night at the library, where they can look forward to various games, contests, sports activities, and other fun events. "Night with Andersen" at the University of West Bohemia is intended for children ages 6 to 12. Parents can register their children at knihovna@uk.zcu.cz by May 30 at the latest. Space is limited. Children must bring their own sleeping bags and sleeping pads.

"Night with Andersen" is an international event in which libraries, schools, clubs, and children's homes in the Czech Republic, Europe, and overseas open their doors at night once a year so children can listen to fairy tales read aloud. It has been held for more than twenty years to mark the anniversary of the birth of the Danish fairy-tale writer Hans Christian Andersen. The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen is participating for the tenth time this year. In past years, children there have visited, for example, the magical world of Harry Potter, enjoyed games and contests inspired by Ondřej Sekora's Ferda the Ant, or spent a night with fairy tales by Lucie Hlavinková from the book Herbal Grandma. Last year, children explored the works of the Czech writer and poet Jiří Žáček and gained insight into the animal world. Karel Makoň from the Pilsen Animal Rescue Station even showed them a live little owl.
