Cooperation Students Employees
"Students come here before and after lectures, but they also have a bite to eat after exams, whether they do well or not. Sometimes you need something sweet to get on your nerves. We want them to know that they are welcome here," said Jiří Kuric, the owner of the Kuri Bakery Stříbro, which is located in a rather strategic location - directly opposite the Technical Station in Bory, where hundreds of students get on and off the tram every day. And not only them - many employees also know that they get a 10% discount on coffee and donuts here. "Before it was a cupcake, we try to rotate the selected products," the owner said. Customers can find both sweet and savory items on the menu here, such as bacon buns, pancakes, cabbage pancakes and bagels.
While the aforementioned bakery has been part of the UWB friendly network for several years, there are some newcomers on the list. It is, for example, the Schovaná Café in Zbrojnická Street. Its co-operator Jan Šimota said: "Although we are located in the city centre, we are hidden away from the hustle and bustle of the city, which is also in our name. For this reason, students come here both for relaxation and because it gives them a quiet place to study. In summer, they can also sit in the outdoor courtyard." Students and employees of UWB will now get a 10% discount on the entire food and drink menu.
Jan Dvořák, operations manager of the café and bar at Měšt'anská beseda and also a student of political science at UWB, likes to take advantage of student discounts himself, so he decided that he wanted to expand such businesses to his Beseda 1901. "We want to attract students here for breakfast, but also for the gin and prosecco we deal with. We hold tasting Wednesdays and weekends here. Plus some of the university staff come here for lunch, so we have discounts for them as well. Also, people like to sit here before different events, balls that are held here, and so on," the manager said.
Not only food and drink, but also fun is part of student life. For example, students and employees of UWB can get a discounted ticket for 50–100 CZK for selected performances at the J. K. Tyl Theatre, and students at Plzeňský Prazdroj can get a 20% discount on the brewery's tour routes.
Current list of companies that belong to the UWB friendly network (unless otherwise stated, the discount applies to both students and employees):
Bar Suterén (students only: -10 % on the whole range)Golf Hořehledy (2 hours of introduction to golf under the guidance of a certified coach for 200 CZK)
J. K. Tyl Theatre (tickets for 50–100 CZK for performances listed on the website)
Other establishments and businesses interested in joining the UWB friendly concept have the opportunity. Detailed information can be found here.
